Loved Rocksteady in TMNT...The boots with the metal tip is my favorite part of this picture...Love the gun, the bullet strap, and the dog tag...Looks like something you might have dedicated to the troops...Pretty bad ass artwork and I hope you got more artwork like this coming.
I've gotta say, for a while now this drawing has been making me jealous. I love the style you drew the character, right from the lineart to the solid comic-book-ish shading. And the way the low saturation color field in the background frames everything just makes it all pop. Very cool
If you don't mind me asking, what was your process for rendering this drawing in photoshop. I'm just curious because I love the style and I'd like to know what brushes you use to paint it and how you got such clean lineart.
Wow, that is so cool that the lineart was done by hand. It looks so smooth and clean I could have sworn it would be the pen tool. I hate to keep bugging you, but there's one last thing I've got to ask about. I notice one this drawing and a lot of your other digital pieces you're really good at getting a sense of texture (i.e. the shiny metal on Krang's body, the rough texture of rocksteady's skin). How exactly do you get that rough texture on places like Rocksteady's skin and his shirt?
Thanks again for answering my questions, I really appreciate it
No problem, my pleasure to help. For Rocksteady, I think I painted some random splotches on a separate layer and lowered the opacity, just for subtlety (try different blending modes to see what works). For Krang, all the shiny metal is just painted with a normal photoshop brush, and some airbrush overlays for the glows. Hope that helps!
Awesomeness!!!..What ever happened to these guys. I remember being a wee boy getting ready to watch TMNT 2 The secret of the ooze. And I didn't know who the two villains were. All I knew was two creatures was gonna be made from some ooze.I was pretty pissed when I found out that Rock steady and Be Bop weren't in the damn movie. I think they need a come back. That would be super bad ass!!!!... Great Rock Steady broha!...
Now that's pretty darn awesome! He looks splendidly ferocious in your style, and your choice of colours seems spot-on to me. Great lighting and shading, too - he's got a real sense of weight and depth to him. Top work!
